Wizard of Legend Introduction:

Wizard of Legend," an indie roguelike video game, was launched in May 2018 by the American studio Contingent99 and Humble Bundle. Initially funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2016, the game puts players in control of a wizard navigating a procedurally generated dungeon. Armed with a diverse array of spells, players must vanquish hordes of enemies, three major bosses, and a final boss to earn the coveted title of "Wizard of Legend." The game received generally positive reviews, and a sequel titled "Wizard of Legend II" is currently in development by Dead Mage.

In "Wizard of Legend," players engage in top-down 2D roguelike gameplay, guiding their wizard through a 10-floor procedurally generated dungeon known as the "Chaos Trials." To overcome various foes and bosses and become the titular "Wizard of Legend," players utilize a selection of spells, or 'arcana.' Each button or key press corresponds to a specific spell category, including basic attacks, evasive maneuvers, more potent 'signature' arcana, and an assortment of standard arcana to aid in dungeon traversal and combat.

Gameplay:

Throughout the dungeon, players encounter three shops per floor to aid their progress. Two of these shops are consistently run by the same NPC, and shops do not appear on floors with boss encounters, except for the shops immediately preceding the final boss battle. New spells can be purchased with collected in-game currency from a shop present on every dungeon level, or they can be permanently added to the player's spell repertoire through 'Chaos Gems,' a persistent currency. Passive upgrades, referred to as "Relics," are acquired in a similar manner. Players can also use Chaos Gems to purchase different outfits, called "Outfits," which alter the wizard's initial stats, such as starting health, defense, or damage. Once in the dungeon, the chosen outfit cannot be changed, but it can be optionally boosted by interacting with an NPC.

The third type of shop found on each floor is a random NPC offering various functions, including selling relics or arcana, providing healing services, enabling item sales, or granting stat enhancements. It is essential to be cautious when interacting with these NPCs, as they may have potential drawbacks. Players can also engage with a few NPCs before entering the dungeon to receive temporary boosts.

The game concludes after successfully clearing all dungeon floors, defeating three major bosses representing the elements of fire, earth, water, air, and lightning, and ultimately overcoming the final boss, who embodies both the elemental forces and a unique element known as chaos.

In "Wizard of Legend," arcana spells are categorized into six elements: Fire, Air, Earth, Lightning, Water, and Chaos. Players can acquire all arcana, except for chaos, by spending Chaos Gems. Chaos arcana can only be obtained by defeating the final council member, which grants one arcana per trial run. The game boasts 36 arcana for each of the elemental categories and 24 chaos arcana as of update V1.23. Arcana are further divided into four sub-categories: Basic, Dash, Standard, and Signature. Basic arcana are the most frequently used spells due to their short cooldown periods. Dash arcana allow players to evade enemies while dealing damage, with unlimited uses but cooldowns for special effects. Standard arcana are more potent, either dealing increased damage or enhancing the player. Signature arcana share similarities with standard arcana but deliver remarkable damage when the signature meter is fully charged. Not all arcana have signature counterparts, but unlocking Signature arcana will also provide access to their Standard versions. Each arcana also has an enhanced version that boosts its capabilities, which can be automatically applied by equipping a Signature arcana or obtained by purchasing the enhanced version during trials or by equipping relics.

The Chaos Trials represent a series of rooms with randomized structures that grow progressively challenging as players advance. These trials are divided into four sections: three themed around specific elements and a final boss encounter. Each section consists of three floors, comprising two regular dungeon floors and a boss floor. While the regular dungeon floors predominantly feature element-neutral enemies, they can occasionally spawn element-specific foes. During trial progression, players may encounter locked rooms with waves of enemies to defeat, offering the chance to earn chests containing health, gold, chaos gems, or potentially revealing a mimic.

Each stage of the dungeons houses three shopkeepers, distinguished by color, who enable players to expand their arcana, relics, and other items. Advancing through each stage involves activating and defeating mini-bosses, accompanied by enemy spawns. The third stage of each set presents a council member specializing in the corresponding element of that level. Each council member possesses a unique skill set based on their arcana and enters a taunting phase that prompts players to stun and inflict damage upon them.

Final Words:

After successfully completing the first three sections, players confront the final boss, guarded by three arena stages. In these stages, players face waves of enemies and a mini-boss before reaching the shop section. Subsequently, players must overcome three boss stages to finish the game and attain a chaos arcana.
