Assassins Of Kings Enhanced Edition Introduction:
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (originally titled Wiedźmin 2: Zabójcy królów in Polish) is a 2011 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red. It draws inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels, forming the second major installment in The Witcher video game series and serving as a sequel to the 2007 game, The Witcher. This game was made available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, OS X, and Linux.
In the game, players assume the role of Geralt of Rivia, a renowned monster hunter known as a Witcher. Geralt's adventures unfold in a fantastical world that draws heavily from Polish history and Slavic mythology.
Gameplay:
The Witcher 2 received both critical acclaim and commercial success, boasting over 8 million copies sold by September 2014. Subsequently, the third installment in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released in May 2015.
Compared to its predecessor, The Witcher 2 introduced significant changes in gameplay. Notably, combat became more intricate, featuring new elements like trap-laying, ranged weapon aiming, and throwing. Geralt, the protagonist, gained access to a broader array of offensive and defensive tools, including various melee and ranged weapons, armor, bombs, traps, as well as secondary tools like hatchets and shovels. Upgrades were categorized into four distinct paths: initial training, swordsmanship, alchemy, and magic.
The game also introduced stealth mechanics in specific sections, where players had to remain undetected while pursuing certain objectives. Geralt could incapacitate enemies by sneaking up on them, though players also had the option to engage in direct combat.
The story commences with Geralt imprisoned under suspicion of assassinating King Foltest of Temeria. Vernon Roche, the leader of Temeria's special forces, interrogates Geralt to unravel the events that led from Geralt serving as Foltest's trusted ally to becoming a prisoner. This story involves Foltest's clandestine relationship with Baroness Maria Louisa La Valette, leading to two children, Anais and Boussy. Following Geralt's earlier rescue of Foltest from a witcher assassin (as seen in The Witcher), Foltest sought custody of his children, triggering a war against Maria, who refused to relinquish them. Geralt successfully reunites Foltest with his children, but an unknown assailant kills Foltest, leaving Geralt as the prime suspect. After the interrogation, Roche concludes Geralt's innocence and aids him in escaping. Together with sorceress Triss Merigold, they embark on a quest to find the kingslayer.
Final Words:
Their journey brings them to the trading town of Flotsam, where they are ambushed by Iorveth, a rebel elf. The group suspects that a witcher, believed to have assassinated King Demavend of Aedirn, is collaborating with the rebels. Geralt intervenes to save his friends, Dandelion the bard and Zoltan Chivay the dwarf, from execution in the city square. With the assistance of sorceress Síle de Tansarville, Geralt confronts and defeats a Kayran, a colossal creature disrupting the town's trade. During their investigation, Geralt uncovers Loredo's plot to sell the town to King Henselt of Kaedwen and the true identity of the kingslayer, a witcher named Letho. He persuades Iorveth to join forces and confront Letho. As they confront Letho, Roche arrives with an armed contingent. The player's choice at this juncture determines the course of the second chapter, but regardless of the decision, Letho kidnaps Triss and escapes to Aedirn."
